Yoga has impartially been considered as one of the sources of the Eastern Martial Arts. Both yoga and Martial Arts are quite often being called a Way of Warrior – a man who seeks self development and enhancement with determination and courage of a true warrior.

It was for a reason that Krishna said to the warrior Arjuna, teaching him a sacred science of yoga: “A Karma-yogi should fight while treating victory and defeat alike, gain and loss alike, pain and pleasure alike and fighting thus, he does not incur sin.” (Excerpt from Bhagvad Gita - the hindu bible).

This notion, being one of the basic pillars of yoga presented in Bhagavad Gita, in many ways determined philosophic basis of martial arts, and became a foundation that yoga and martial arts were built upon.

Methods of working with one’s body and breath, originated from yoga, soon became part of martial arts too. Vice versa, many of the exercises used in the martial arts were incorporated into the practice of yoga (the most striking example - Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya Yoga).

It’s for a reason that the images of the God Shiva (according to the Hinduism Shiva taught science of yoga to people) and one of the Gods, favorers of karate in Okinawa, so resemble each other.

Yoga is a one of darshans (schools) in Hindu philosophy. The history of yoga is extremely complex and it is not adequately explored untill now.

Hatha yoga is the most familiar one in the contemporary world. A practice of hatha yoga is based on different methods of operation with a physical body.

Methods of operation with body, breath and consciousness which were developed in hatha yoga have much in common with similar methods in martial arts (particularly in different kinds of Chinese Wushu) and apparently they have been undergoing an interference for centuries.

Our hatha yoga practice has wholly applied nature related to martial arts practices. We use tools of yoga as an instrument, which allows developing of essential motor qualities of body, keeping up good health and controlling the state of our mind. Yoga practice helps us to retain energy and inspiration, which are so crucial not only for efficient trainings but also for our daily life.

The starting point for our yoga practice was an experience gained on the lessons at Ashtanga Yoga Centre (Moscow) as well as the seminars of Budokon system founder – Cameron Shayn, and trainings with founder of Apnea Yoga System Alexander Dudov. We’re always looking for relevant trustworthy literature pertaining to yoga science, and always keen to use any opportunities for deepening our comprehension of yoga.
